A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence On Resellers
Marking the arrival of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators and the Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store stocked with exclusive merchandise. Enthusiasts will find offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the museum's theme. The big draw, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. The store will operate from on-site at the museum and online from January 26 to April 19.
Pokécology Behind the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited volume packed with stunning artwork that show Pokémon in their wild environments. The concept is what a Pokémon Professor could produce once adventurers submit their data, alternatively what Charles Darwin could have sketched had the famous islands were populated by flying-types rather than birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious treatment, treating Pokémon as a legitimate subject for inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.
What Makes This Promo Card Different
The company regularly to issue to release promos celebrating big events and brand collaborations. Many of these promotional cards typically highlight the iconic electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this new museum card however, is the unusually large dimensions. Although precise specs have not been immediately shared, availability will certainly be strictly limited, and customers limited to only a single card per purchase.
Limiting Reseller Activity
According to an official announcement, some of the merchandise may also be available beyond the institution itself. But, broader availability will only be specific stores in the United Kingdom. Critically, fans will not be able to purchase this promo via the official web shop. While reseller interest is inevitable, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. If you're unable to attend, consider an alternative like fossil-themed display coming to Chicago later this year.
"All profits from purchases from the museum store and its web shop, which covers these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists who are conducting studies to discover solutions to the global ecological crisis," the statement says.
