Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Every squad includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
