Iran Reports Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is not yet known and the US has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
