Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with Club Management

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Response

Slot highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”

“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
