Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

Price was best known for his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
